    Self-Help Techniques to Reduce Tinnitus:

    Avoid loud sound.
    Eliminate nicotine and caffeine.
    Avoid stressful situations.
Rest. Get at least 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night.
Avoid too much quiet. Use a fan, noisemaker (ocean waves, birds, rain sounds) or quiet radio music at night to mask the irritating tinnitus as you are trying to sleep. During the day, you may find yourself less bothered by the tinnitus if your mind and body are engaged in activities and there are other sounds in the room for your brain to listen to.
Avoid focusing on the tinnitus by frequently discussing it with your family.
In cases not responsive to these basic measures, treatment with the physician may include:

    Stress reduction
Relaxation techniques including massage and acupuncture
    Treatment for depression and anxiety
    Sleeping aids
Hearing aids to improve underlying hearing loss
    Family support
Professional support groups such as the American Tinnitus Association
    Tinnitus Retraining Therapy
Gingko biloba. Some patients find this herbal medication helpful, but the scientific data is inconclusive. Gingko biloba may increase the risk of bleeding.

dude i suggest you do see a maxillofacial surgeon or a buccal doctor. Know that medicine dont really study the head part of the body, but mroe of the rest…Dentists, they have studied the head and the pathologies associated to it. The problem is that people rarely go see a dentist for some head problem and will go see a doctor that dosnt really know the problem instead. So the dentist forgets quickly the things he learned in school. So go see a specialized dentist in oral diseases and head pathologies or a maxillofacil surgeon.

Tinnitus can often be due to hearing loss.
when the inner ear sensors/nerve endings get damaged causing hearing loss, they also generate noise which you hear as ‘tinnitus’.
There are two main advices medically,
    1. because it is unilateral and it became loud suddenly, u need full audiological testing to know the cause of hearing loss and tinnitus.
    2. based on that an ENT can advice if any further investigations are required
    treatment is usually,
    1. if recently, u have started on some pain medication like brufen, aspirin, stop that
    2. increase intake of fluid, water, specially if u work out / walk/jog. as loosing salt through sweat can affect loudness of tinnitus
    3. check with ENT on medications
    4. there are devices to reduce tinnitus, that we audiologists now ususally prescribe, u can check with your audiologist about it

Tinnitus retraining therapy exercises? Or yoga?
Hi, I seem to have developed a unilateral tinnitus on my right ear. I have no intentions of letting some noise ruin my mood or cause me headache, so I’m looking for retraining excercises.
Up to now I have been doing by myself:
-consciously listening to noises around me by focusing on them
    -concentrating on reading or drawing
-imagining the noise getting less while breathing with my diaphragm so that I can sleep.

Now, as you see, I have mainly tried to do concentration or yoga excercises- which kinda sucks because I know just about nothing about yoga. Anyway, if you have gone through retraining therapy or do yoga you’d be helping me a great deal if you gave me a few guidelines.

Can you help me or my doctor diagnose this very unusual ailment?
I got a pain like a very severe toothache that starts randomly in some places of my body. It appears on ONE LOCATION only. It may attack on my left ear, left part of my head (unilateral), approximately back of my eye), both sides of my neck just below the ears, on my thigh, my external oblique abdominal, on my rectus abdominis (see http://www.faqs.org/health/images/uchr_01_img0105.jpg)

It often throbs, and is made worse by moving around. The pain is often so severe that I cannot continue to do normal activities such as working, reading or office activities.

For the last10 years I have positively observed that certain food triggers this pain. They are chocolate, candies, milk, cheeses, citrus juices (orange or lemon), red wine, coffee, tea, softdrinks, vitamin C, multivitamins, food with additives, vinegar, mango, orange, kiwis, tomatoes,

When the pain attacks I will take a pain killer to ease it but I am afraid I got my tinnitus from taking pain killers like ibofrupen

    I suffer from tinnitus?
First of all, I have unilateral hearing loss for over 10 years (I’m 17 years old) and all these years I had a strange ringing inside my head. It never bothered me actually, because it was a quite noise. But, since the beginning of this school year (I’m a Senior in High School) that ringing started to increase and I havent had a moment of silece, literally.. I find it difficult to sleep at night bc the noise is so high its giving me a huge headache every day. Its driving me crazy! Even right now, I’m in my room and there is no noise, the ringing is there..so I put on my headphones trying to mask the ringing.. Guys please help, I cannot deal with this anymore.. I feel like my head is gonna explode!!

Withdrawal symptoms of caffeine possibly including headache, irritability, an inability to concentrate, drowsiness, insomnia and pain in the stomach, upper body, and joints — may appear within 12 to 24 hours after discontinuation of caffeine intake, peak at roughly 48 hours, and usually last from one to five days, representing the time required for the number of adenosine receptors in the brain to revert to “normal” levels, uninfluenced by caffeine consumption. Analgesics, such as aspirin, can relieve the pain symptoms, as can a small dose of caffeine. Most effective is a combination of both an analgesic and a small amount of caffeine.

  20. I did not mean everything but when it comes to vertigos and tinnitus and all of those diseases that can be cured by herbalist they know about that I know people that got cured by herbalist from vertigos, migraines , tinnitus and other diseases. Maybe you should try and go see one and see if they are going to help you instead of drinking those medicine pills that wont cure you they will just kind of control your dizziness but they will never cure it.

Try some Benadryl. Anecdotal evidence of it working on Tinnitus directly, but it works to reduce inner ear swelling/irritation which may be making the tinnitus worse. My doctor recommended it when I got Tinnitus/Dizzy from too many shows/band practice.
